Shift At Midnight Walkthrough for All 13 Shifts
Quick answer
Story Mode has 13 randomly generated shifts, so there is no reliable fixed customer-order script. Use the same repeatable loop each night: stabilize the store, meet the quota without neglecting customer checks, investigate every visitor, prepare barricades and traps before they are needed, and switch immediately to survival priorities when a Hunt begins.
How the Story Mode Walkthrough Works
Shift At Midnight Story Mode contains 13 randomly generated shifts. The number of shifts is fixed, but the moment-to-moment order is not. A useful walkthrough therefore teaches a repeatable operating loop instead of pretending every customer, delivery, and monster appears at the same time for every player.
Each shift combines three jobs:
- Run the gas station.
- Investigate customers.
- Survive the result of any missed doppelganger.
Progress comes from balancing all three. Focusing only on the store can let a dangerous customer leave. Focusing only on interrogation can cause ordinary work and the nightly quota to fall behind. Spending every resource on defense before a threat appears can leave the station unable to function.
Step 1: Stabilize the Store
At the beginning of a shift, read the work in front of you before committing to one task. The official store loop includes stocking shelves, taking deliveries, cleaning the station, serving customers, and selling enough products to meet the nightly quota.
Use this opening order:
- Locate deliveries and obvious restocking needs.
- Clear anything that blocks movement through the store.
- Identify the current quota and the work that directly supports it.
- Keep the counter ready for the next customer.
- Note where defensive supplies and hiding places are located.
This is not a requirement to finish every cleaning or stocking task before serving anyone. It creates enough control that a customer arrival does not force you to abandon an unknown store state.
Step 2: Check Every Customer
Treat each visitor as a complete case. The supported investigation loop is to examine the ID, cross-check details in the computer, observe behavior, and use the available interrogation options.
A repeatable check order prevents skipped steps:
- Read the presented ID.
- Open the matching computer information.
- Compare the details instead of relying on appearance alone.
- Watch the customer while the document check is happening.
- Use questions to resolve uncertainty.
- Review the whole case before making the decision.
Do not replace this process with a list of visual tells copied from one run. Randomized shifts and updates make isolated encounter rules less dependable than the complete check.
For a deeper explanation of this decision loop, use the doppelganger guide.
Step 3: Survive a Hunt
If a doppelganger is missed, it can return later in the shift and turn the investigation into a Hunt. The official defensive systems are barricading doors, placing traps, and hiding.
When the phase changes:
- Stop performing low-priority store work.
- Identify the active approach before spending all defensive supplies.
- Barricade the route that needs protection.
- Place traps where they control movement rather than where they are merely easy to drop.
- Preserve a route to a hiding place.
- In co-op, communicate positions and used resources.
The goal is not to reproduce a video’s exact fight. It is to move from station management to survival without losing track of doors, supplies, or teammates.
The monster guide keeps named threats and patch-sensitive details separate from the defensive systems that remain useful.
Step 4: Recover After the Threat
After immediate danger passes, rebuild the station loop deliberately. Check which doors, traps, and supplies were used, then return to customer service and quota work.
Use a short recovery pass:
- Confirm that the active threat is no longer controlling your route.
- Reopen the path between the counter, computer, shelves, and exits.
- Reassess the quota and unfinished station work.
- Restore the full customer-check process for the next visitor.
- In co-op, state what resources are gone so the group does not plan around items that no longer exist.
Rushing directly back to the counter can carry the confusion of a Hunt into the next investigation. A brief reset is faster than making another careless decision.
How to Approach All 13 Shifts
Do not divide the campaign into “easy nights” and “hard nights” based on one recording. Instead, increase the discipline of the same loop as pressure grows.
Early shifts
Learn where the station tools, computer, customer position, defensive supplies, and hiding routes are. Build the habit of completing every customer check.
Middle shifts
Reduce wasted movement. Combine compatible station tasks, keep the counter ready, and avoid using every defensive resource in the first dangerous moment.
Late shifts
Protect consistency. Do not abandon the ID and computer comparison because the store is busy. Keep personal story decisions in mind, especially if you are working toward a specific ending.
The final outcome has its own spoiler-marked guide: Shift At Midnight All Endings.
Solo and Co-op Walkthrough Priorities
In solo play, use one fixed investigation order and finish short store tasks between customers. A plan with fewer handoffs is easier to recover after a Hunt.
In co-op, split attention but keep information shared. One player can compare records while another observes the customer or handles nearby store work. Before making a decision, combine the facts so the person at the counter does not act on only one teammate’s impression.
During a Hunt, call out locations and resource changes. Proximity chat is part of the game, so distance affects how useful a vague warning will be.
Story Mode Completion Checklist
Use this list on every shift:
- Read the quota and immediate store tasks.
- Keep the customer route and computer accessible.
- Complete the ID, record, behavior, and question checks.
- Know where barricades, traps, and a hiding place are.
- Switch priorities immediately when a Hunt starts.
- Reset the store and resource plan after danger passes.
- Track late-story decisions if you want a specific ending.
That loop is the walkthrough. The randomized content changes, but the decisions that keep the shift understandable remain consistent.
